13 de Julio

It is a fact that 21.4 % of our time here has elapsed. That’s almost 25% which is almost a quarter, wow. Andrew and I have decided to change our diet to fruit for breakfast. I believe it’s the right move as there are so many varieties here to choose from. The land here is an agricultural haven. I bet anything can be grown here. In the short time that I have been here, I have strawberries, papaya, mango, pineapple, bananas, watermelon, apples, cantaloupe, grapes, and a slue of other fruits that I’ve never seen before. I had a great session in class today. For the first time I felt like things were flowing out of my mouth as apposed to dripping. I hope it only gets better. Andrew purchased a grand new tool today that we used for the first time. The web cam allows us to show our ugly mugs to whoever we are talking to on skype. Victoria was first to witness this miraculous piece of technology. After yet another greasy supper, we took to the streets to see what was going down. After waking for abut 15 minutes, I got an urge that I don’t get very often. I was crabbing something sweat, desert. Shortly after I confessed this to Andrew, we ran across a very modern bakery, the kind with 12 grain breads and a cooled viewing case with double layered cakes and picture perfect cheese cake. I went for the double layered white cake with peach-mango filling and Andrew hit up the glazed cherry cheese cake. “Buen idea” remarked Andrew as we finished up our delicious delicacies. As we walked further on, we heard live music in a little plaza. We strolled in and listened to a group of young percussionists and an older gentleman jamming out. They weren’t to bad considering how young they were. It reminded me somewhat of “School of Rock.” I think they are the Guatemalan version. On our way back to the hostel wee veered off into a place that we had always wondered about but never went in. As we walked down a short dark driveway it opened up into a brightly lit outdoor “indoor” soccer court. I was pretty cool; in good enough condition to play well on but getto enough to have a cool third world country feel. There was already a game in session, 2 girls teams that Andrew and I watched until it finished. Afterwards, we had such a fever to play, ourselves, that we got our ball from the hostel room and juggled it under a street light till 9:30 p.m. The word for the day is relevant to Andrew and I, “encerado.” It means wax job.
